Point of Care Resources
- UpToDate This link opens in a new window UpToDate is a comprehensive, physician-authored clinical decision support tool offering thousands of topic reviews to help you make decisions at the point of care. It can also be download as a mobile app. First-time users will need to create an account.
- VisualDx This link opens in a new window
VisualDx allows you to build a differential diagnosis based on patient findings, sort diagnoses based on likelihood or emergency, compare images side by side, and use clinical pearls to increase confidence in your diagnosis. It can also be downloaded as a mobile app. - Lexicomp This link opens in a new window
Lexicomp Online (now Lexidrug) is a point-of-care database that provides information about drugs and their usage, dosage, and adverse reactions. Users can also find information about drug interactions, toxicology, natural products, and drug identification based on shape, color, and dosage form.
- Micromedex This link opens in a new window Micromedex provides evidence-based, unbiased, referenced information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine to make informed clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions. It can also be downloaded as a mobile app.
Where Should I Start?
Are you looking for basic disease information or treatment options? Try DynaMed Plus or UpToDate.
5MinuteConsult is good for procedures, lab tests, and algorithms and charts.
Need drug facts? Try Lexicomp and Micromedex.
VisualDx is helpful for a visual differential diagnosis.

Get Apps on Your Phone!
Some of the point-of-care resources we provide have mobile apps. Here's how to get them on your phone.
DynaMed Plus:
- Open DynaMed Plus from the library's website or this guide.
- Click the "Get the DynaMed Plus Mobile App" link at the left side of the page.
- Enter your e-mail address and you will be sent instructions for downloading the DynaMed Plus mobile app.
UpToDate:
- Follow the instructions to get UpToDate Anywhere.
VisualDx:
- Open VisualDx from the library's website or this guide.
- Below the search bar, you will see "Get the Mobile App" phone icon; click on that icon.
- Fill out the form and you will be sent instructions for downloading the VisualDx mobile app.
Micromedex:
- Open Micromedex from the library's website or this guide.
- Click the Micromedex button on the right.
- Click the "Download Mobile Apps" button on the lower right.
- There are three Micromedex apps: Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers, Micromedex Drug Interactions, and Micromedex IV Compatibility. Scroll down to the app(s) of interest and follow the instructions.
- *NOTE: The Micromedex passwords change yearly. If your current password no longer gets you into the app, repeat the first three steps above and scroll down to Step 4 of the app of interest to get the new passwords.
